Rotting logs are important to Pease Mountain because they make soil rich.  They make the soil rich through the process of decomposition.  There are many kinds of decomposers including, earth worms, millipedes, bark beetles and fungi.  Rotting logs are also important because they are habitats for many different animals.  Some of the animals are chipmunks, snakes, birds, rabbits, insects, rodents and others.
